The Parliamentary Secretary to participate in the EU General Affairs Council

On 16 September 2025, at the meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union in Brussels, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Artjoms Uršuļskis, and officials representing the other EU Member States will agree on the agenda of the European Council meeting of 23–24 September. It includes the topics of Russia’s war against Ukraine, developments in the Middle East, security and defence, the EU’s external relations, as well as competitiveness and migration.

A discussion will be held on the European Commission’s annual report on the rule of law situation in the EU and in four candidate countries – Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.

The European Commission will inform the Council about the preparation of its 2026 work programme.

The General Affairs Council examines matters concerning more than one EU policy, such as negotiations on EU enlargement, preparations for the European Council, the EU’s Multi-annual Financial Framework, as well as the rule of law, institutional and administrative matters.
