1888 count Nikolai von Stenbock decided to build a house for himself on the inherited land in Tallinn on the top of the Tõnismägi 1889 it was decided to build an additional household building. Later it served as a garage 1890 The main and additional buidings were completed 1891 Nikolai von Stenbock left Estonia and sold the property to Maria Knüpffer 1922 widowed Maria Knüpffer endowed her property to her son Arthur Knüpffer 1930 the property was bought by the government of the Republic of Latvia 1931 the Embassy of Latvia moved to the new building 1940 the building was taken over by the USSR authorities 1941 the German Estonian self-government was located in the building 1944 the building again was taken over by the USSR authorities, the Central Council of the Trade Unions of the Estonian SSR was located in the building 1983 The Estonian SSR Choir Association and the National Male Choir are located in the building 1991 starting from this year the Embassy of Latvia started gradually to take posession of the building |
