Latvian-Estonian Bilateral Relations

Latvia pays a special attention to the cooperation with Estonia as we share both a common border and history as well as similar understanding about development of the Baltic Sea region.

Active political dialogue between Latvia and Estonia exists at all levels providing possibility to regular exchange of views on issues of foreign and security policy essential for both countries.

The historical heritage and the close personal contacts between people in Latvia and Estonia creates environment for intense cooperation at the non-governmental level, contributes to cross-border projects and promotes cooperation in the fileds of culture, education, tourism and etc.

History of diplomatic relations

Estonia recognised Latvia de iure on 21.07. 1919. Latvia and Estonia re-established diplomatic relations on 6th september 1991.
