Latvia is taking part in the London Design Biennale from 1-27 June with an art piece “In3” or “Introvert in Interior” as part of the Latvian literature export campaign #iamintrovert.

The installation is a creation by Ms Krista Dzudzilo and Mr Reinis Dzudzilo, in cooperation with Ms Una Rozenbauma, the author of the concept of the Latvian literature export campaign, and the team of the “Latvian Literature” platform. The piece is a living monument for contemporary Latvian literature and also serves as an interpretation for one of the Latvian cultural artefacts – the Cabinet of Folksongs (Dainu skapis). Visitors get to learn about 12 contemporary Latvian authors and their books in English.

At the kick-off of the international event, H.E. Ms Ivita Burmistre, Ambassador of Latvia to the UK, wished the Latvian creative team a successful start, great public interest and many new professional contacts.

The contents and the design of the Latvian installation were made with the goal to promote the development of Latvia’s creative industries and to promote their product and service export. The design object offers the visitors the chance to get acquainted with the Latvian national identity through some tasteful self-deprecation. Latvia’s participation at the prestigious international event is an opportunity to promote the competitiveness and innovative approaches of the Latvian creative industries such as design, literature, publishing and printing.

The London Design Biennale has helped to promote international cooperation and the development of the global role of design since 2016. Latvia was represented for the first time at the event by Mr Artūrs Analts, author of the interactive installation “Matter to Matter”, during Latvia’s centenary year in 2018. His work earned the highest level of recognition – a gold medal in the category “Best Design”. This year’s theme of the event is “Resonance” and the event is taking place for the third time at Somerset House. The event gathers leading design artists and offers visitors the chance to explore creativity and learn about various global challenges.

This year Latvia is represented by the export platform “Latvian Literature”. Latvia’s participation is supported by the Latvian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Culture and Economics, as well as the Embassy of Latvia to the UK. This project is part of the international programme of Latvia’s centenary.
