Embassy of Latvia hosts an expert discussion on Kremlin-led disinformation
The Embassy of Latvia to the UK hosted an event of the Diplomatic Press Attachés Association in London (DPAAL) on November 7 on “Russia’s war against Ukraine: Lessons learnt from countering Kremlin-led disinformation.”
Lutz Güllner, Head of Strategic Communications at the European External Action Service and James Rogers, Co-founder of The Council on Geostrategy, engaged in a discussion with the moderator Catherine Philp, diplomatic correspondent at The Times, on Russia’s disinformation and information manipulation efforts.
The democracy eroding efforts by Russia are not new and continue to require that democratic nations uncover the larger strategic plans and mechanisms behind information manipulation and respond early and decisively. The participants and speakers of the event discussed various information manipulation examples also relating to Russia’s war in Ukraine. They also focused on how democratic communities such as the United Kingdom and the European Union have taken unprecedented steps to deal with disinformation and have supported Ukraine’s fundamental right to self-defence.
DPAAL was established in 2008 as a forum for press and public diplomacy officers in London. The group networks with UK and foreign London-based media, hosts networking events and shares contacts and best practices. DPAAL is lead by a board of press and public diplomacy diplomats of foreign missions in London.
