On February 6, 2020, the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia and its Czech and Latvian partners opened the photo exhibition “The Horizon—Latvia Celebrates 100 Years” in the National Library of the Czech Republic. The exhibition uses images from the collection of the National Library of Latvia and its Latvia’s Landscape Treasures collection, which highlight Latvian architecture, historical images and the most beautiful landscapes.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia, H.E. Ms Gunta Pastore, thanked in her speech the National Library of the Czech Republic and the National Library of Latvia for cooperation in the preparation of the exhibition. The Ambassador welcomed a great long-term cooperation between the both libraries and stressed that such a good cooperation is also at governmental level between Czechia and Latvia.
The Director General of the National Library of the Czech Republic, Mr Martin Kovanda, and Director of the Special Collections Department of the National Library of Latvia, Dagnija Baltiņa, expressed in their speeches their delight of the excellent cooperation of the both libraries as well as of the photo exhibition in Prague that celebrates the Latvia’s Centenary.
Vilém Jirsa, a student of the Náchod Music School and a laureate of the several international competitions, enriched the event by playing the violin. Náchod is a twin town of Latvian Bauska and it was Náchod Music School Orchestra that gave a concert celebrating Latvia’s Centenary in November 2018.
The opening of the exhibition “Horizon” visited Czech culture operators, media representatives, partners of the National Library of the Czech Republic, teaching staff, students, friends of Latvia, diaspora and the diplomatic corps. The exhibition is a part of the Centennial programme of the National Library of Latvia and the Centennial programme of public diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. The exhibition runs until March 28.
The director of the Special Collections Department of the National Library of Latvia, Dagnija Baltiņa, and the Head of Communications Departement of the National Library of Latvia, Ieva Gundare, met the management of the National Library of the Czech Republic as well as the second most important partner of the National Library of Latvia, Czech National Technical Library, during their visit in Prague.
