On June 10, 2020, the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia in the Czech Republic, Ms Gunta Pastore, participated in the commemorative ceremony in Lidice, paying thus tribute to victims of Nacizm. Lidice represents a symbolic place which recalls the blak page of Czech history. In 1942, the village Lidice was completely destroyed and its inhabitants murdered by Nazis.
With respect to the restrictions brought about due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year wreaths were laid individually. Czech public office-holders, diplomatic corp as well as relatives of the victims participated in the ceremony.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia visited also the 48th International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2020. This competition commemorates the tragic destiny of Lidice for almost 50 years. During the meeting with the curator of the exhibition, Ms Stanislava Doleželová, the Ambassador expressed her satisfaction that Latvia is represented with 50 pieces of children’s artwork from various places of this country this year. Latvia takes active part in this competition many years already. This year, 22 216 children from 78 states sent their artwork to the competition.
