Baltic Sea Culture Season in Finland
The end of the Cold War brought the Baltic Sea Region into the limelight of political and cultural cooperation. The Region is often cited as a model region. Indeed the catchphrases used to describe it since the early 1990s may seem overused: the "New Hansać¹, the laboratory of Europe, the nucleus of the new Europe etc. Following the historical changes which took place between 1989 and 1991, the region has become one of Europe's most dynamic.
Universum Balticum is a cooperation project of the Embassies of the Baltic Sea Region states in Helsinki. It includes a series of cultural events taking place in Finland during the year 2009.
The intention of Universum Balticum is to show the cultural richness and variety of the region and to contribute to the enhancement of a cultural identity in the Baltic Sea region.
