Ambassador of Latvia to India Mr Artis Bērtulis and representatives of the Riga Technical University visit Tamil Nadu and inaugurate the Riga Technical University Information and Study Centre in Chennai

Ambassador of Latvia to India Mr Artis Bērtulis paid a visit to Chennai, the Capital of the Tamil Nadu State. The visit took place in collaboration with representatives of the Riga Technical University Prof. Igors Tipāns, the Deputy Rector for International Academic Cooperation and Studies of the Riga Technical University and Mrs. Zane Purlaura, the Deputy Director of the International cooperation and Foreign Students Department of the Riga Technical University, as well as with the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Chennai, Mr. Narayanaswamy Ramachandran.

 

During the visit Ambassador A.Bērtulis, Prof. I.Tipāns and Mrs. Zane Purlaura held talks with the Chief Secretary of the State, Mr K. Shanmugam, as well as with the Principal Secretaries to the State Government in the fields of Higher Education, ICT and Industries, discussing opportunities for collaboration in the higher education and science, and the ICT.

 

Ambassador A.Bērtulis also visited the newly inaugurated Riga Technical University Information and Study Centre in Chennai, which aims to strengthen and establish a permanent link between universities in India and the Riga Technical University, to enhance the academic visibility of Latvia, and to provide practical support for the future students from India for their studies at the Riga Technical University.

 

In October the Riga Technical University inaugurated its Information and Study Centres in Chennai and in Colombo, the Capital of Sri Lanka. In recent years the number of students from India and Sri Lanka, as well as of those, who are interested to study at the Riga Technical University from these countries, has increased. Therefore the Riga Technical University has established its permanent presence in the region in order to provide practical support for qualified future students as well as to expand the collaboration with the leading universities from India and Sri Lanka in the academic and scientific field.
