Celebrate the joys of winter at Winterlude, with three fun-filled weeks in February. Canada's favorite winter activities are featured across Ottawa and Gatineau at this annual event.
To mark Latvia’s presidency at the Council of the European Union, the Embassy of Latvia in Canada in partnership with the Winterlude festival is organizing the creation of the ice sculpture called “The Sun Bearer”. The sculpture is designed by Kārlis Īle, and it will be exhibited at Confederation Park. It will be crafted by a team of two experienced ice sculptors from Latvia: Kārlis Īle and Maija Puncule.
Skate on the world's largest skating rink, check out the ice sculpture competitions or play at North America's largest snow playground. There’s fun for the entire family, and all sites are open on Family Day.
The park is open to the public during the day. After “The Sun Bearer” sculpture has been revealed on January 30th, a three day ice sculpting competition will take place. A Latvian team will also compete. The theme for this year’s competition is “At play”.
