The Ambassador’s working visit to the province of Ontario

From July 21 to July 25, Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš was on a working visit to the province of Ontario, during which he met with the officials, representatives of cultural institutions, diaspora and businessmen.

During the visit, K. Ozoliņš met with Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Ted Arnott, Member of the Canadian Parliament Terry Dowdall. At the meetings, issues of bilateral cooperation between Latvia and Canada in the field of defense and economic cooperation, the contribution of the Latvian diaspora to the social and cultural life of the province of Ontario, the issue of Russian aggression in Ukraine and others were discussed.

Ambassador Ozoliņš visited Toronto Latvian St. John's Church, where he met St. John's parish and St. Andrew's parish representatives. On July 23, the ambassador attended and greeted diaspora on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the rural estate "Saulaine" of St. John's parish. “Saulaine” has served the Latvian community in the Toronto area as an important spiritual, commemorative, social life and children's summer camp center for several decades. “Saulaine's” rural property continues to serve this purpose today.

Also, the ambassador met with the leaders of the Royal Ontario Museum, the Museum of Textile Art, the McMichael Canadian Collection Museum, the Elora Festival, and also with representatives of the Toronto City Council to talk about the desired cooperation projects in the next two years. The main emphasis in this cooperation should be on the Latvian Song and Dance Festival scheduled for 2024 in Toronto.

A separate meeting was held with a representative of the pension fund to discuss cooperation opportunities investing in green energy projects in Latvia.
