Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš meets The Honourable Greg Fergus, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada
On 30 November 2023, Ambassador of Latvia Mr. Kaspars Ozoliņš together with the Ambassadors of Estonia and Lithuania had a Courtesy call with The Honourable Greg Fergus, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada.
Ambassadors welcomed the close relations between Canada and the Baltic States, as well as Canada’s increased presence in the Baltic region, both military and political with the opening of Canadian Embassies now in all three Baltic capitals. Ambassadors also appreciated the close cooperation with Canada in multilateral fora.
Speaker Greg Fergus and Ambassadors discussed the security situation in the Baltic region and the commitment to implement the agreed measures aimed at ensuring long-term security in the region. Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš noted that the presence of the Canadian armed forces in Latvia promoted the security of the whole region.
Speaker Greg Fergus expressed his desire to continue active interparliamentary contacts with Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as his wish to visit all three capitals of the Baltic States.
Speaker Fergus took his office on October 5, 2023 after the resignation of his predecessor, The Honorable Anthony Rota.
