Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš pays visit to New Brunswick and sees Canadian rotating troops off to Latvia

On 12 and 13 December 2023 Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš went on a regional visit to New Brunswick. Ambassador met the Honourable Brenda L. Murphy, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, Her Worship Kate Rogers, Mayor of Fredericton, Chief Executive Director of Services New Brunswick Alan Roy, as well as vice-presidents Judy Ross and Rob Arsenault. They discussed opportunities for cooperation between Latvia and New Brunswick, including the export of Latvian products and services.

Ambassador also visited the Canadian Armed Forces Base Gagetown where he greeted Canadian military officers who will soon be deployed to Latvia for the next six months and their family members. Ambassador welcomed Canada’s continued contribution to the security of NATO’s eastern flank and its commitment to further strengthen it over the coming years.

Ambassador Ozoliņš also visited St. Thomas University in Fredericton and met Dr. Nauman Farooqi, President and Vice-Chancellor of the university, and his team with whom he discussed opportunities for cooperation between St. Thomas University and universities in Latvia, including the exchange of students and academics. Ambassador also engaged in a lively discussion with university students on pressing international security issues, such as Russia’s unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, as well as Canada’s role in leading a multi-national battle group deployed in Latvia as part of NATO’s operation “Reassurance”.
