Embassy of Latvia participates in various events in Canada in celebration of 20 years of Latvia’s NATO membership
In March and April 2024, the Embassy of Latvia in Canada participated in various events in Canada marking the 75th anniversary of NATO and the 20th anniversary of Latvia’s full membership in NATO.
On March 12, Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš visited the Mount Allison University in Moncton, New Brunswick, where he engaged in a lively discussion with students of political science and international relations on European Security and shared Latvia's experience of 20 Years NATO Membership.
On April 4, Ambassador attended the screening of film “Outside the Sphere” by Andris Ķesteris and Marcus Kolga at Café Ukraine in Ottawa. The film was followed by a Q&A session with the audience during which Ambassador of Latvia together with Ambassadors of Lithuania and Estonia answered questions on global security with the focus on European security and Russia’s war against Ukraine. Ambassadors shared the experience of the Baltics States after 20 years of full membership at NATO and the European Union.
On April 19, Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš participated in an online discussion “Evolving European Security: View from Latvia after 20 Years of NATO Membership”, organised by the NATO Association of Canada. Ambassador Ozoliņš discussed the importance of Latvia’s 20th anniversary of joining NATO, noted NATO’s role in deterrence and collective responsibility of all NATO member states in ensuring the security of the Euro Atlantic region, including Latvia. He also stressed the necessity to provide all necessary support to Ukraine to defend itself against the Russian aggression.
