
Valdis Zatlers, former President of the Republic of Latvia, meets a number of interlocutors in Ottawa and discusses European security, NATO and support to Ukraine
Valdis Zatlers, former President of Latvia, visited Ottawa on June 24 and 25, 2025. President was accompanied by Kārlis Bukovskis, Director of Latvian Institute of International Affairs, and Helga Kalm, Director of the Lennart Meri Conference. The visit was facilitated by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation USA & Canada.
President Valdis Zatlers had a meeting with Larisa Galadza, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, International Security and Political Affairs, Global Affairs Canada, and exchanged views on European security, NATO and support to Ukraine. He also addressed the audience and engaged in a fascinating discussion at an event organised by Canadian Global Affairs Institute and moderated by Colin Robertson. President Zatlers had an exchange with Senator Rebecca Patterson, Member of Parliament Marie-France Lalonde, as well as with representatives of diplomatic corps and Latvian community in Canada. He also had a stimulating debate with a number of international security policy experts.
