Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa

On Lāčplēsis Day, we commemorate the victory of the Latvian army over Bermont's troops in 11 November 1919 and proudly pay tribute to all defenders of Latvia’s independence.

Lāčplēsis Day reminds us that freedom endures only as long as we protect it. On this day we honour all who fought for freedom of Latvia for their courage, conviction, and self-sacrifice. We also honour all those who protect Latvia’s freedom today – the Latvian National Armed Forces, the Canadian Armed Forces and soldiers of ally countries who are part of NATO Multinational brigade in Latvia and ensure the safety and security of Latvia and the NATO’s Eastern flank.

11 November is Remembrance Day in Canada. Today we remember and honour all Canadian Veterans and the Fallen who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom around the world. In commemoration of the Canadian Veterans, the Fallen, and all Canadian service men and women, the representatives of the Embassy of Latvia attended the solemn ceremony and laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in Ottawa.
