From the January 28 to 31, 2020, the Chairman of the Board for the Liepāja Theatre, Mr Herberts Laukšteins, and the Member of the Board, Ms Eva Ciekurze paid a visit to the South Bohemian Theatre in the Czech town České Budějovice.

The representatives of the Liepāja Theatre and the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia met with the First Deputy Mayor of the town Mr Juraj Thoma and the Director of the South Bohemian Theatre Mr Lukáš Průdek. They spoke about the cooperation between the two theatres, i.e., about the possibility to exchange their performances. A question how to honour the famous scenographer Joan Brehms, who was born in the Latvian town Liepāja, also arose. A commemorative plaque on the house in Liepāja, where the scenographer had lived, is one of the options.

During their visit to the South Bohemian Theatre, the representatives of the Liepāja Theatre watched the performancesZombie Apocalypse Survival Instructions” and “Under the Snow”. The guests also visited a baroque theatre in Český Krumlov whose Revolving Auditorium’s author is the native of Latvia Joan Brehms.

The Chairman of the Board for the Liepāja Theatre, Mr Herberts Laukšteins, and the Member of the Board, Ms Eva Ciekurze, visited also the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in the Czech Republic and the Embassador, Ms Gunta Pastore.

This visit is just another step in already ongoing cultural cooperation between the towns Liepāja and České Budějovice. In 2017, an exhibition “Joan Brehm (1907–1995): scenographer, architect, painter” took place in Liepāja.
