20th Anniversary of joining NATO

On 21 April 2024 in Cairo Diplomatic Club the 20th Anniversary of joining NATO was celebrated by Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia. The Ambassadors of the seven states emphasized the defensive nature of NATO, various benefits it has delivered, and importance of engagement with Egypt through the Mediterranean Dialogue.

NATO Cooperation efforts with Egypt have been focused on areas of mutual interest, including maritime and cyber security, counter-improvised explosive devices (C-IED), and collaboration in mine clearance. The new Individually Tailored Partnership Plan (ITPP) for Egypt is expected to reinforce further information sharing. Egypt’s expertise of anti-radicalisation, counter terrorism efforts and insight of the security developments in the Middle East and North Africa has proven key to foster Allies’ comprehensive understanding of the region.

The event was organised together with the Embassy of Greece as part of it’s role of NATO contact point in Egypt. It was attended by high-level Egyptian officials, Ambassadors and Defense Attachés of NATO memberstates and partners.
