This exhibiton, which celebrates the 22nd anniversary of Latvia’s restoration of independence, features a selection of evocative paintings from nine outstanding contemporary artists of Latvia. The diversity of style, content and technique of these paintings attests to the many ways artwork helps us reflect upon contemporary realities to widen our vision of the world. This show brings together romantic realism, playful primativism, hypnotic portraits and geometric abstraction.

The artwork has been selected by a commission of experts, and has been organized by U.S. Baltic Foundation co-chairman Hamid Ladjevardi in cooperation with LATO, the Latvian Transatlantic Organization.
The exhibit has opened to high acclaim at the National Arts Club of New York and following the Washington show, will continue on to the Driehaus Museum in Chicago, where it will coincide with the NATO Summit. At the end of May, this collection will return to Latvia, where the paintings will be exhibited in Latvia’s National Art Museum in June.
