At the Embassy
This service is available to persons residing abroad permanently and having declared their place of residence in USA with the Register of Natural Persons
To request a birth, marriage or death certificate from the Embassy of Latvia, please submit the following documents:
1. Completed and signed application form to request a birth certificate,
Completed and signed application form to request a marriage certificate,
Completed and signed application form to request a divorce certificate,
Completed and signed application form to request a death certificate;
2. Fee in the amount of 10 USD in the form of a Money Order payable to the Embassy of Latvia, if the person requests the document him/her self or in the amount of 50 USD, if the document is requested by a close relative or person requests a divorce certificate. If the death certificate is requested by relative and relationship has been proved by documents the fee is 10 USD. In other cases the fee for the death certificate is 50 USD;
3. The copy a personal identity document (signed and with the written statement: “Kopija pareiza”);
4. Power of attorney, if you are requesting a birth or marriage certificate of a relative who is alive;
5. Documents proving kinship or the purpose of the request, if a certificate is requested regarding another person;
6. If you are requesting this document by post you must submit a Money Order in the amount of 30 USD for sending the documents via Federal Express or in the amount of 20 USD for sending the documents by registered mail.
The processing time of the request is approximately 2 weeks.

The payment is non refundable if the requested document cannot be issued because it cannot be found in the registries.
You can request the family documents (birth, marriage, death certificates, etc.) from the Embassy of Latvia only for the last 100 years. If you are interested in older family documents, you should contact the National State Archives.

Certificates from the Register of Natural Persons of Latvia
To request a document from the Register of Natural Persons of the Republic of Latvia, please submit the following documents:
1. Completed and signed application, addressed to the Embassy of Latvia;
2. The copy a personal identity document (signed and with the written statement: “Kopija pareiza”);
3. Fee in the amount of 60 USD in the form of Money Order payable to the Embassy of Latvia (if the certificate is requested in English) or in the amount of 10 USD (if the certificate is requested in Latvian);
4. If you are requesting this document by post you must submit a Money Order in the amount of 30 USD for sending the documents via Federal Express or in the amount of 20 USD for sending the documents by registered mail.
The processing time of the request is 5 working days.

Police Clearance Certificate
To request a Police Clearance Certificate from the Embassy of Latvia, please submit the following documents:
1. Application Form;
2. the copy a personal identity document (signed and with the written statement: “Kopija pareiza”);
3. Free form application with this text on it "I, (Name, Surname), agree that my data will be used in the process of my criminal records check" with the date and your signature;
4. Payment in the amount of 80 USD in the form of a Money Order payable to the Embassy of Latvia (for a certificate in English) or 70 USD (for a certificate in Latvian). The certificate is issued within 5 working days. If the certificate is issued within 2 working days, the payment is 100 USD (for a certificate in English) or 80 USD (for a certificate in Latvian).
5. If you are requesting this document by post you must submit a Money Order payable to the Embassy of Latvia in the amount of 30 USD for sending the documents via Federal Express or in the amount of 20 USD for sending the documents by registered mail.
