The Northern Festival of Bands, an annual festival of high school bands which typically hosts over 40 schools and over 250 individual participants, will be held February 8th & 9th, 2008 at the University of Northern Iowa.
Mr. Janis Purins, Head of the Department of Winds at the Latvia Music Academy, will be conducting the Festival’s Orchestra, which will perform the following Latvian pieces, all by Latvian composers: „Ligodama upe nesa,” composed by Peteris Butans; „Zvejnieku zinge,” composed by Juris Karlsons; „Vidzeme, Vidzeme, kundzinu mans,” composed by Liga Celma, and „Acikops,”composed by Andrejs Jurjans.
