Documents issued by the Embassy are valid for use only in its consular district (territory of the United States of America) or in Latvia.
Documents issued by the Embassy may not be attested by apostille.

Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates
A birth, marriage or death certificate can be requested online from any location via the Latvian State Portal: https://latvija.lv/en

To request a birth, marriage or death certificate from the Embassy of Latvia, the following documents should be submited by mail:
- application form to request a birth certificate,
- application form to request a marriage certificate,
- application form to request a divorce certificate,
- application form to request a death certificate;
2. The copy of a personal identity document (signed and with a written statement: “Kopija pareiza”);
3. Power of attorney, if a person requests a birth or marriage certificate of a relative who is alive;
4. Documents proving kinship or the purpose
of the request, if a certificate is requested regarding another person;
After receiving the mailed documents, the payment link will be sent to your indicated e-mail. The consular service will be provided after the payment is received. The fee for a birth certificate, marriage certificate for yourself or death certificate for a deceased relative is 7 EUR. A marriage certificate cannot be issued if the marriage is dissolved or the spouse had passed away; a birth certificate cannot be issued if the person has passed away. In these cases, a statement on the registration of the civil status act can be issued. The fee is 40 EUR. Requesting documents by mail, additional consular fee in the amount of 25 EUR is applied. A pre-paid envelope with a return address may also be attached togeter with the request.
The payment is non refundable if the requested document cannot be issued because the data cannot be found in the registries.
The processing time of the request is approximately 2 weeks.
You can request the family documents (birth, marriage, death certificates, etc.) from the Embassy of Latvia only for the last 100 years. If you are interested in older family documents, you should contact the National State Archives.

Certificates from the Register of Natural Persons of Latvia
To request a document from the Register of Natural Persons of the Republic of Latvia, please submit the following documents:
1. Completed and signed application, addressed to the Embassy of Latvia;
2. The copy a personal identity document (signed and with the written statement: “Kopija pareiza”);
3. Fee in the amount of 45 EUR.
4. If you are requesting this document by post you must pay a consular fee in the amount of 25 EUR for returning the document via FedEx or you may send a pre-paid envelope with your return address.After receiving the mailed documents, the payment link will be sent to your indicated e-mail.
The consular service will be provided after the payment is received.The processing time of the request is 5 working days.

Police Clearance Certificate
To request a Police Clearance Certificate in English language from the Embassy of Latvia, please submit the following documents:
1. Application Form;
2. The copy a personal identity document (signed and with the written statement: “Kopija pareiza”);
3. State fee payment – a copy of the proof of payment of the state fee to the State Treasury.
State fee: the certificate is issued within 5 working days - 16.80 EUR, the certificate is issued within 2 working days - 33.60 EUR.
