As of January 1, 2021 those age 15 and older applying for a Latvia passport must also receive the eID card

We would like to inform that as of January 1, 2021, the law regarding personal identification documents has been amended, making it mandatory for all those age 15 and older when receiving a passport to also receive the personal identity card (eID card).

Individuals under the age of 15 are allowed to receive a passport only. However, we would recommend that parents with children under the age of 15 who are applying for passports consider applying for an eID card at the same time. If the individual already holds a valid eID card, it is not necessary to renew it.
