On March 10 and 12, 2024, Professor Ēriks Jēkabsons from the University of Latvia presented the English translation of his book “Relations Between Latvia and United States of America 1918-1922” in Washington, D.C.
On March 10, he gave a lecture at the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Washington, D.C. speaking to the local Latvian community about the history and significance of Latvia-U.S. relations. Emphasizing the robust collaboration and unwavering support Latvia received from the United States during its formative years, Prof. Jēkabsons shed light on pivotal historical events.
On March 12, he presented the book to members of the diplomatic corps, including representatives from the U.S. Department of State currently under the tutelage of Ms. Aija Celms Evans in the study of Latvian language and culture. The lecture was followed by an engaging discussion, delving into the historical intricacies and their contemporary relevance.
The book was first released in 2018 in Latvian, meanwhile the English translation of the book was released in late 2023. This monumental work marks the first comprehensive historical account in English of the nascent Latvia-U.S. relations. Translation of the book was supported by the Embassy of Latvia and Ambassador Māris Selga, as well as the generous contributions of the Latvian American Association, Richards Zariņš Memorial Foundation and the following Honorary Consuls of Latvia: Roberts Blumbergs, Eric Eduard Kalnins, Andris Lācis, John J.
