The end of 2021 saw notable advancements in education collaboration between Latvia and the United States. In October, Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) signed a partnership agreement with the Beasley School of Law at Temple University in Philadelphia, marking an important development for international law education in both countries.

Soon after, in support of the partnership, Latvia’s Honorary Consul Mr. John Medveckis announced a generous donation to support RGSL students through the “Medveckis RGSL Student Support Fund”. The purpose of the Fund is to support the partnership by providing financial assistance for one student from RGSL to attend Temple Law School. The Fund shall be used to provide scholarship support and to offset costs associated with traveling to the United States and/or living expenses for the recipient.

At the end of the year, Latvia’s Ambassador Māris Selga together with RGSL faculty member Dr. Ivars Indāns and Honorary Consul Mr. John Medveckis met with the faculty of Temple University to discuss the partnership, student support fund and opportunities for further collaboration.

Mr. Medveckis has been Latvia’s Honorary Consul to Philadelphia since 2007. As a businessman, philanthropist, patron of the arts, collector, and amateur historian, Mr. Medveckis actively leverages his professional expertise in support of his passions and the community at large. He is the recipient of The Cross of Recognition from the Republic of Latvia and an Honorary Degree from the University of Latvia.
