On 23 September 2021, in an official ceremony in the Royal Palace in Oslo, Norway, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Norway, Mārtiņš Klīve, presented his letter of credence to King Harald V of Norway.
In his conversation with His Majesty, the Ambassador highlighted the good bilateral relations between Latvia and Norway, their active economic and regional cooperation, as well as close partnership in NATO. The Ambassador pledged his commitment to further development of bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation in the security sector between the two countries as the Allies in NATO, and he added that he would focus on the Baltic-Nordic cooperation, which is vital for addressing challenges important to the region, for instance, climate change.
King Harald V shared good memories of his and Queen Sonya’s state visit to Latvia on 2-3 September 1998, when the royal couple arrived in Riga on the Royal Yacht Norge. His Majesty Harald V acceded to the throne in 1991, and he is the only Norwegian king who has visited Latvia.
In his ambassadorial post, Mārtiņš Klīve is succeeding Judīte Dobele, who had been serving as Ambassador to Norway since 2017.
