Daris Gunars Delins was born in Melbourne, Australia of Latvian parentage and has lived in Manhattan since 1999. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Economics cum laude, triple majoring in Economics, Statistics, and Accounting from LaTrobe University. He has also attended the School of Economics / J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago as a Fulbright Scholar in 1981-82, and completed the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Delins is an international finance specialist, having worked since 1985 for international organizations including Citigroup, NatWest Markets and UBS in Australia, London and New York. Prior to this, Mr.Delins held the position of Economic advisor to the former Premier of Victoria, Hon. Jeff Kennett, then leader of the Opposition. He was also Graduate Researcher at the Institute of Applied Economic & Social Research, University of Melbourne, Australia; and thereafter Business Management Analyst, Ford Sales Company of Australia.
Mr. Delins has been an active member of the Latvian community since childhood. His father Emils Delins, AM, was the Honorary Consul General for Latvia in Australia from 1983-2004, and from 1949-2003 the editor of 'Australijas Latvietis', the Latvian newspaper in Australia. His brother, Janis R. Delins, is currently the Honorary Consul General for Latvia in Australia. Mr. Delins visits Latvia several times a year.
